SageDEIB | Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Shared through a Sage Lens

The daughter of civil rights attorney Sage Brown, a true DEIB pioneer who integrated Savannah schools, and Dr. Shirley Mcgee Brown, Educator, Administrator and the best mother imaginable, Sagdrina was born a change-maker.

And so, Sagdrina’s DEIB work is infused with the rich gifts of historical depth, informed by experiences that transcend everyday Americans’ understanding of the true impacts of the ongoing fight for authentic Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

Local Food Systems

In 2022, Sagdrina facilitated the creation of the Anti-Racist Farmers Market Toolkit in partnership with the Farmers Market Coalition + Black growers and farmers' market leaders.

With the toolkit now utilized across the country, Sagdrina is available to facilitate a community of practice, present workshops, or give keynote talks around the topics of DEIB in local food systems.

Corporate DEIB Training

A highly-sought consultant with Atlanta Leadership Consulting, Sagdrina also is available for DEIB corporate training initiatives, virtual and on-site.

DEIB training comes in many forms, and often, an organization should assess its own unique needs when it comes to DEIB prior to securing training. Sagdrina offers three levels of DEIB training:

  • Foundations of DEIB

  • DEIB Assessment + Strategy

  • DEIB Policy + Implementation

What’s different about how Sagdrina approaches DEIB?

A Sage Approach

Holistic

Sagdrina leverages tenets of adrienne marie brown’s Emergent Strategy, such as “radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help”.

Place-Based

Sagdrina intentionally practices space curation – creating safe spaces – as opposed to more mainstream DEIB experience curation.

Cultural Preservation

Different from historical preservation, Sagdrina centers both tradition and legacy in her work.

Past DEIB Projects

Inequity in Philanthropy

Sagdrina designed and led the Inequity in Philanthropy working group.

Together, they developed a set of recommendations to address deep-rooted biases and broken processes in the way institutional philanthropy invests in the work and leadership of Black women.

Throughout 2020-2021, Sagdrina designed and led a working group that established a giving circle that awarded a total of  $100,000  to four Georgia-based,  grassroots organizers.

A $100k Giving Circle

As a member of the Investment Committee for Mailchimp’s Forward Project, Sagdrina helped co-design a participatory grantmaking fund that reviewed and collectively selected three awardees who each received a  $200,000 grant and $25,000 worth of strategic support.
